It's a good week for video editors. Adobe released a new beta for Premiere Pro, including a massive facelift to the app. Apple is in on the action, too, with updates to its video editing applications, including iMovie, Compressor, Motion and Final Cut Pro.

The latest version of iMovie lets users import projects created with iMovie for iOS version 2. 3. Plus, there are sixteen new solid and textured backgrounds with adjustable colors. Finally, the software has received numerous stability improvements.

Compressor, now version 4. 5. 3, also includes stability improvements. The encoding app now offers notifications for the progress of encoding batches. The update also adds embedded audio descriptions.

Motion (version 5. 5. 2) includes stability improvements. Apple Insider reports that the stability improvements appear to address rendering issues which had been causing crashes on M1 Macs.

Of the four updates, at 3. 1GB, the Final Cut Pro update is the largest. Final Cut Pro 10. 5. 3 includes the ability to create and edit custom column views with the new column editor. The update allows users to search for media in the browser using expanded search criteria, such as clip names, markers and notes. You can now sort clips in the browser according to type, including proxy, optimized and missing media. Finally, the update includes stability improvements.
