Happy New Year from DPReview!

Pictured - some (but not all) of the hardworking people that bring you DPReview and keep everything running on the backend. We finally made it to January 1st. How are you doing? How are you feeling? What's the weather like in your brain? As 2020 staggers to an end, I'm sure you'll join me in wishing good riddance to this exceptionally long year and looking forward to a brighter few months ahead.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines 'pandemic' as "prevalent over a whole country or the world" and while 'we're all in this together' has become a tired and too-often repeated clich

But just because the effect of the pandemic has been felt universally, it doesn't mean that we've all shared the same experiences. For the lucky ones among us, 2020 has been weird, boring, lonely and exhausting. But for millions of people around the world it has been (and continues to be) absolutely devastating.

Just because the effect of the pandemic has been felt universally, it doesn't mean that we've all shared the same experiences

I'm one of the lucky ones. And it's times like these when I appreciate photography the most. One of the reasons I love photography is that it's easy to pick up and get started, without a lot of equipment or a lot of training. It provides a creative 'quick hit' which I've always enjoyed, especially on days when the dark clouds start to encroach. Another reason is that photography is an activity that you can practice pretty much anywhere, alone or in company. I like taking pictures on my own, on walks or road trips, but there's nothing better (in normal times) than taking and sharing photographs with friends. As a creative exercise in sanity maintenance, I've never found a better one. Maybe you feel the same.

As we look forward to 2021, I hope you join me in hoping for a slight return to normality, a bit more security, a bit more sociability, and a lot more humility.

On behalf of everyone here at DPReview, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for making DPReview a part of your life this year, and for keeping us honest with your comments and feedback. We couldn't do any of this without you.

Happy new year! Let's take lots of photographs in 2021.

Barney

Review: Canon EOS 6D Mark II by DPReview

DPReview has completed their review of the Canon EOS 6D Mark II rather quickly and came away liking, but not loving it. From DPReview: It’s true that every objective specification of the 6D Mark II has been improved upon when compared with its predecessor, while the release price has remained the same. Unfortunately, unless you’re Read more... canonrumors.com »
