Kodak is ramping up its range of cameras by pulling the covers off the brand’s latest superzoom, the AZ1000. Boasting an insane 102x optical zoom, the camera was first announced at the Photokina Show and features a built-in lens that gives photographers a vast and versatile 35mm equivalent focal range of 19-1989mm (f/3-6.

8).

Along with the vast focal range, the AZ1000 features a 3-inch vari-angle LCD.

This incredible focal range will cover virtually every situation; from wide-angle landscape scenes, to mid-range portraits, right through to the other end of the focal range spectrum, with the AZ1000 being useful for astrophotography. Along with the optical zoom, an additional digital zoom mode boosts that zoom magnification to 408x. Plus, to make sure things stay steady at the long end of the range, the AZ1000 includes Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) technology.

With IS technology, Wi-Fi and a 4K video mode, the AZ1000 is well-specced.

At the heart of this camera is a 1/2. 3-inch BSI CMOS sensor that delivers 20-megapixels of resolution. Images can be captured in JPEG or RAW format, with a maximum image size of 5184 x 3888pixels - plenty big enough for A3 prints. Images can be lined up via the Electronic Viewfinder or with the 3-inch (9320k dot) LCD, which features a vari-angle design that could come in handy for a spot of Vlogging.

In fact, when it comes to video, the AZ1000 can capture ultra high-quality 4K footage at 30fps and Full HD video up to 60fps. In fact, there’s also a high speed option to shoot footage at 120fps at 1280x720 for use in slow motion sequences.

The AZ1000 features a 20-megapixel sensor to accompany that huge focal range.

The AZ1000’s autofocus options includes Face and Smile Detection and the camera is fairly speedy, offering a burst rate of 7 frames per second. A pop-up flash will provide illumination in low light and also offers Slow Sync and Red-Eye Reduction modes.

Weighing 777g, Kodak says the AZ1000’s battery is good for 340 images between charges and other features include built-in Wi-Fi, a Panorama capture mode and a macro mode that can focus as close as 1cm away from a subject.
