Optics manufacturer Ernst Leitz Wetzler has announced an interesting new cinematographer’s viewfinder that features an integrated lens adapter and foldaway handle that offers built-in record button.
Designed to pair specifically with Leica’s SL2 camera systems, including the new SL2-S announced today, the ‘Henri’ Cinematographer’s Viewfinder features a built-in adapter that comes in two versions: L-PL and L-LPL. Regardless of which adapter you choose, the ‘Henri’ includes a rail system for supporting the attached lens, as well as a handle that includes controls for starting and stopping video recording.
When the handle is folded up between the rails, the system can be mounted directly to a monopod or tripod plate for easy transitions between mounted and handheld recording. When paired with a Leica SL2 camera system, the handle and camera together weigh 1940g (4. 27lbs).
The ‘Henri’ name is a tribute to Dr. Henri Dumar, a Managing Director of ‘Ernst Leitz Optische Werke Wetzlar. ’ Leica says ‘With his character, his 60-year dedicated work and support for Leitz, he is to this day unforgotten and an exceedingly respected personality within the Leitz family. ’
Leica hasn’t revealed the availability or pricing of the ‘Henri’ Cinematographer’s Viewfinder at this time. We have followed up with a representative and will update this article with more details when we receive them.
