If you love the gear you rent from Lensrentals, you now have direct purchase options, removing the need to send it back. Lensrentals has announced two purchase programs, Keeper and Keeper Test Drive.
The programs, both available via the Keeper page on Lensrentals, allow customers to purchase pre-owned inventory that has been refurbished, tested, graded and priced by the Lensrentals sales team. Grades range from 1 (exceptional) to 4 (flawed), and products are graded in terms of cosmetic quality, performance, and where applicable, glass quality. In some cases, the listings also show how much a product has been used. For example, on the Canon EOS C300 EF Cinema Camera listing, you can see how many hours have been logged on the units available for sale.
The Canon EOS C300 Mark II Dual Pixel (EF) cinema camera is available used. The camera is graded by cosmetic quality and by performance. You can see roughly how many hours each available camera has been used. Click to enlarge
On pages for products available for sale, there is now a 'Buy' button next to the preexisting 'Rent' button. The product pages for pre-owned products will look familiar to experienced Lensrentals customers. Each page features links to requisite technical data and manuals, specifications and an in-house summary of the product.
Used lenses are also graded by optical quality. Click to enlarge.
If you still want to try before you buy, the new Keeper Test Drive program is for you. You can rent equipment, and if you like it, you contact the Lensrentals team and get a unique price. You can also deduct up to seven days of rental fees from the final purchase price.
'We've maintained the highest reliability of video and photo gear, with the lowest equipment failure rate in the industry, by making our techs work incredibly hard to inspect, clean and repair equipment before and after each rental, and that now extends to purchases from Lensrentals through the Keeper programs,' said Drew Cicala, vice president and co-owner Lensrentals. 'Consumers want peace of mind that the used gear they're buying has been well maintained and suits their purpose. And this is exactly what Lensrentals Keeper Test Drive was built for. Customers can rent gear, try it and if they like it - keep it and we'll remove the cost of up to a seven-day rental from the final sale price. With that Test Drive purchase users know the gear is what they need and has received Lensrentals high-quality of product care. '
For still cameras, usage is shown via shutter count. Click to enlarge.
Customers have previously been able to purchase used equipment from LensAuthority, a sister site to Lensrentals. LensAuthority will eventually be wound down as Lensrentals finishes its transition to Lensrentals Keeper. If you'd like to browse the current used gear for sale at Lensrentals, click here.
