Northlight has uncovered a patent application concerning improved images stabilization, especially in wider lenses. The patent includes both in lens image stabilization and electronic stabilization.

Our previous post about what appeared to be image sensor stabilization in drawing from a lens stabilization patent proved to be false after further translation by Canon News. However, an image sensor stabilization patent was uncovered. canonrumors.com »

Update: After further translation, the drawing likely shows the in camera level and orientation switch. However, a new patent uncovered does show sensor based image stabilization. One thing this patent shows that’s interesting is what looks to be a 50mm HIS macro lens design. canonrumors.com »

Thanks to improvements in sensor design, iPhone and Android smartphones are gaining traction with enthusiast and professional creators. However, one area that has lagged behind developments in imaging sensors is image stabilization.
This patent application (Japan 2023-125903) has a lot of esoteric fast zoom lenses in some very nontraditional focal lengths. Many of the embodiments are missing the image height, however since we also have the half angle of view, we can work backward to verify if these lenses are meant for full frame or for APS-C.
