SanDisk Just Unveiled a 1TB SD Card

SanDisk, recently bought out by Western Digital, have revealed the world’s largest SD card, a 1TB monster. The SDXC card is still just a prototype and won’t be going on sale just yet, but it’s still a bit statement of intent from SanDisk and Western Digital.

According to the company, size increases are driven by memory-intensive formats such as 4K, 360-degree video and VR.

As Western Digital point out, the first 64GB card was introduced by the company just twelve years ago, and just two years ago the first 512GB card was unveiled. This rapid increase in storage volume can only be good for consumers, particularly as older, smaller cards will become cheaper as larger sizes become commonplace.

The only danger of bigger cards is the massive headache of losing them or having them become corrupt. No matter how much storage you have, don’t forget to carry a spare SD card. You never know when you might need one.
