"I never screamed on 9/11," says photographer Melanie Einzig the Phoblographer in an interview. "I remember thinking that scream was probably stuck in my body. The following summer was heartbreaking but also strange that tourists and locals came to Ground Zero to see something when there was actually not much available to view.
While I may have publicly used the term ‘self-portrait therapy’ before, I have never spoken about the vulnerable origins of my self-portraits. When I started taking photos of myself, I was immensely inspired by what other people were creating.
Sometimes I think that photographers (especially professionals) do too much to harm one another in fears of competition instead of working to boost one another. But after years of photo walking, I can't even begin to tell you how much enlightenment I've gained from talking to others and how much I've spread in kind.
