The gauntlet has been thrown and GoPro has finally shown the world its latest gambit. Its first independent entry into the drone market, the GoPro Karma was unveiled yesterday. It is seen by many as GoPro’s last chance to correct a downward trajectory, caused in part by numerous pretenders and usurpers to the action camera throne.

Interview: Roman Robroek And The Fascination Of Abandoned Spaces

One form of architectural photography that has seen a massive resurgence in recent years is the coverage of abandoned locations. Just as previous generations were enthralled with the mysteries of ancient ruins, modern documentarians indulge us with the unexplainable pleasure of viewing unloved locations with far more recent origins.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II: Hands-on First Impressions

On the last day of Photokina 2016 our team headed down to the Olympus stand with one thing in mind – to get our filthy paws on a prototype of the new Olympus flagship model, the OM-D E-M1 II. We had originally heard whispers in the halls of the Koelnmesse, the venue of this year’s convention, that Olympus actually had a physical model of the camera secreted away.

Selfskie Lets You Transform Various Apparatus Into a Selfiestick

For those too embarrassed to brandish a selfie stick when out in the wild, Selfskie have designed a covert solution that will transform any elongated rod into a monopod for your camera. The product essentially acts as a tube mount which you can whip out and use for whatever occasion, provided there is a stick-shaped object nearby - just like a GoPro - but what makes Selfskie so interesting is that it also works with smartphones.

Battle Of The Drones: DJI Mavic VS GoPro Karma

With their new drone releases, DJI and GoPro are gearing up for a Batman V Superman style burly brawl. Unlike that movie, we’re really enjoying this showdown. After a couple of years out in the cold, GoPro, the prodigal son of action cams returned to our open arms last week with Karma.

Sony A99 II: Hands-on First Impressions

On the day before Photokina began, every major camera company held a press conference announcing their key products for the expo. Nikon, Pentax, and Canon unfortunately didn't really show up with anything new (although each company did unveil landmark DSLRs this year in the Nikon D500, Nikon D5, Pentax K-1, Canon 1D X Mark II, and Canon 5D Mark IV), so it was up to Sony to spark some life into the crowded room.

Olympus Unveil Flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II

Olympus has had a nice run of compact system cameras in recent years, although its range-topping OM-D E-M1 was starting to look a little stale in the face of newer competitors. Fortunately, it’s turned the tables somewhat by revealing a second-generation E-M1 model is in the pipeline – and there appears to be much to get excited about.

Will the Karma Save GoPro?

There was a lot of anticipation in DigitalRev HQ last night as the GoPro announcement kicked off. We’d heard a lot about the Karma, and a few of us were writing if off before we’d even seen it, assuming that GoPro were too late to a notoriously overcrowded market.

Olympus Bolsters PEN Line And Unveils Pro Glass

Having spent the last couple of years furnishing its OM-D line of compact system cameras with a variety of differently priced options, Olympus has been pretty quiet on the PEN front. Sure, there was the handsome PEN F camera announced back in January, although as the sole recent arrival in the series, its entry-level proposition has essentially been left unchanged.

These 7 Music Videos Were Filmed With Just a Smartphone

Recently when Lok, Warren, and I travelled to Cologne to meet up with Kai at Photokina, we tested out three pieces of gear that could really open up a lot of doors for videographers and photographers: the iPhone 7 (chill out Android fans, I guess Google’s Pixel will be great too), the Feiyu SPG Live, and its new competitor – DJI’s Osmo Mobile.

35mm Prime Lens Shootout

35mm is my favourite focal length. I shoot most of my daily photos using a 35mm lens, I also use it to shoot quite a bit of weddings and other documentary type photos. In this review I’m comparing a few Nikon mount 35mm prime lenses.

Trump Jr. Skittles Tweet Challenged By Photographer

Just over a week ago Donald Trump Jr. , the son of presidential hopeful Donald Trump, posted a picture tweet that (to put it mildly) caused a tidal wave of outrage. In a new turn of events the image has been removed and legal action is being considered due to the photo’s owner claiming it was used without proper consent.

Hands-On With The New DJI Mavic

For years now, the best drones have been large and unwieldy to transport. If you wanted great camera quality, a solid build and a reputable name, you’d be looking at a heavy, cumbersome drone like the DJI Phantom 4 or the Yuneec Q500 Typhoon 4K.
