Watch Annie Leibovitz’s Unique Approach to Shooting this Lincoln Campaign

Legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz was recently asked to shoot a Lincoln Continental campaign embodying the core essence of the great American road trip. Told through Leibovitz’s eyes, the story told through images attempts to inspire a sense of wanderlust and prestige associated with the Lincoln Continental and a group of travellers preparing to embark on a long journey ahead.

Lincoln selected Leibovitz for the project out of deep respect for her artistry and curiosity over how she would interpret the theme.

Leibovitz ultimately decided that the story needed to be told by a group of spirited individuals filled with an unshakable sense of confidence and expanded view of the world - much like the car itself. The commercial cast painter Tali Lennox, musician Jon Batiste, actor Giles Matthey, and director Ben Younger to breathe life into the story and take the journey to the next level.

The shoot was free-form with Leibovitz asking each artist to bring their own personal touch to the project. Tali brought her own boots, Jon carried a basketball that reminded him of his high school team, Giles donned a jacket he wore to auditions, and Ben brought his pet dog along.

Once the illusion of a road trip was carved out, Leibovitz set about capturing candid and natural snapshots of the group. The end result effortlessly blends Leibovitz’s documentary-style photography with an authentic feeling of nostalgia that showcases why she a such a highly sought-after individual in the photography world today.
