Today, Autel Robotics announced two new drones – a sub 250g EVO Nano+ and the EVO Lite. Notably, the Nano is the first drone in its size class to offer an obstacle avoidance system while the Lite is the first drone ever to offer up a 4-axis gimbal – giving users the ability to record vertical videos.

A feature called SonarSound, a built-in microphone in the remote, allows users to record voices and other sounds from the ground.

The Nano series — aimed at beginners

Weighing in at 249g, the EVO Nano+ has a camera, mounted on a 3-axis gimbal, with a 1/1. 28" CMOS (0. 8") sensor that captures 50MP photos. A RYYB color filter with a F1. 9 aperture reduces noise in images taken at night or in low-light conditions. HDR mode captures several of the same photo at different exposures that can be stitched together in post-production. A PDAF + CDAF autofocus system allows remote pilots to track fast-moving subjects.

The Nano is the first-ever sub-250g drone to offer up obstacle avoidance.

The EVO Nano has a 1/2" CMOS sensor, 48MP camera capable of capturing up to 4K/30p video. Both drones feature Dynamic Track 2:1 – which allows for the tracking of subjects including people, animals, and cars. Following DJI's lead, Autel is offering users several automated cinematic shooting modes, including Rocket and Orbit, and MovieMaster allows you to automatically add filters and templates along with a soundtrack through its Sky app.

Autel's SkyLink transmission system for the Nano allows for a range of up to 6. 2 miles, supports three frequencies (2. 4/5. 8/5. 2GHz), with a streaming quality of 2. 7K/30p in HDR. You can also instantly upload your photos to your smartphone at a speed of 160Mbps by placing your drone next to the phone and remote – no need to connect the drone. SonarSound, a built-in microphone allows for the recording of voices, and other ambient sounds at ground level. The Nano can fly up to 28 minutes per battery.

Like DJI's products, the Nano and Lite offer up automated cinematic modes and the ability to track subjects.

The Lite series — a mid-range set

Weighing 820g, the Lite+ drone has a camera with a 1" CMOS sensor, a variable F2. 8-F11 aperture, that can capture 20MP stills. Autel created what it calls an intelligent moonlight algorithm that allows the camera to capture crisp and detailed imagery at night, even with the ISO 'cranked up high. ' It's also capable of up to 6K/30p video.

The Lite series offers up a 4-axis mechanical gimbal, perfect for capturing vertical imagery.

The EVO Lite is equipped with a 50MP, 1/1. 28" CMOS (0. 8") RYYB sensor camera. The RYYB sensor absorbs 40% more light than traditional RGGB. It can capture 4K HDR video. Both Lite drones mount cameras on a first-of-its-kind 4-axis mechanical gimbal that allows for imagery capture in a vertical orientation.

Like the Nano, automated cinematic modes and Dynamic 2:1 tracking are available through the Autel Sky app. SonarSound, MovieMaster, and 'Snap and Share' are also there. The Lite series also contains the same 3-way obstacle avoidance system.

The Lite is the first drone in its class to also offer up to 40 minutes of battery life per flight. Its SkyLink transmission system supports three frequencies, 2. 4/5. 8/5. 2GHz, and has a range of up to 7. 4 miles with 2. 7K/30p HDR streaming video quality.

Pricing

The EVO Nano starts at $649 while the Nano+ costs $799. The series is available in four colors: Autel Orange, Arctic White, Deep Space Gray, and Blazing Red. The EVO Lite series starts at $1,149 while the Lite+ is $1,249 for the basic package. The drones come in three colors: Autel Orange, Arctic White, and Deep Space Gray.
