After the initial media buzz, it has been very around Google Glass for a while now. But Alphabet X, Google's "moonshot" division, has just unveiled an update to the original smart glasses.

The new version is called Google Glass Enterprise Edition and, as the name suggests, is not meant for personal use but targeted at enterprise users.

While Google ceased sales of the original Google Glass to the general public in 2015, it continued to supply the device to corporate clients such as GE, Boeing, DHL and AGCO.

The latter achieved a 25 percent reduction in production times with Google Glass, and DHL could increase its supply chain efficiency by 15 percent. The gadget also helped professionals in the healthcare sector reduce paperwork by more than 20 percent, allowing doctors to spend 50 percent more time with patients.

Google says that improvements have been made to the hardware since the original version, making the Enterprise Edition more lightweight and comfortable to wear for longer periods, and increasing battery life. The new design is also more rugged, features a foldable frame and comes with a bigger display prism.

Additionally, Google has been working with developers to create apps that convert the smart goggles into an efficiency tool in the work space. DHL uses a solution that gives workers real-time instructions about where items have to be placed on carts, using visual aids. The GE app shows its users instructions with videos, animations and images in their line of sight, and doctors and nurses can speak to patients while notes are recorded in the background via a "remote scribe" app.

In a blog post, Google says Glass Enterprise Edition is "now available to more businesses through our network of expert partners," but does not provide any details on pricing.
