Hero5 Black Adds a Slick New GPS Display to GoPro Footage

GoPro has announced a new update for Quik for Desktop, an advanced editing suite that allows GoPro users to import and create videos and touch-up photos with ease. The impressive new feature utilises GoPro Hero5 Black’s GPS system to essentially map a slick overlay of how fast, far, and high you travelled — a desirable feature for extreme sportists.

CNET) demonstrated the telemetric gauge in action with a sample video showing off its GoPro Hero5 Black in transit. Any footage recorded with GPS turned will collect the necessary metadata to map everything you need to create a HUD that looks like something Tony Stark would expect to see while donning his Iron Man suit.

The Info Cluster provides date and time, distance travelled, altitude, elevation, speed and g-force. Each visualisation can be resized and placed anywhere over the video.

CNET notes that the GPS will shorten battery life; in addition, you should always make sure that a satellite has been locked onto before starting to record an extreme skydiving stunt or any other videos that might be a dealbreaker without telemetric data.

Aside from providing gauges and graphs for videos, Quik for Desktop also allows users to sync videos with music, auto upload to the cloud with GoPro Plus2, automatically import and organise photos and videos, create HiLights of the best moments, create timelapses and more.

Quik for Desktop can be downloaded for Mac and PC free from the GoPro website here.
