Apple has already scheduled a press event centred around the unveiling of new MacBook Pros for Thursday, but the company appears to have inadvertently leaked its own product announcement according to MacRumors.

Hidden inside the latest build of macOS Sierra, the latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system, are two images that appear to confirm the rumoured updates to the MacBook Pro line.

The images show a slimmer, slightly redesigned MacBook Pro with reduced bezels around the keyboard and screen. The most exciting addition is the anticipated touch strip, which replaces the function keys at the top of the keyboard and can be adapted to whatever app you’re currently working in.

The images also reveal that the touch strip will contain a fingerprint reader, meaning that you can now use Apple Pay on your desktop as well as your mobile device. Once the Mac is asleep or powered off, the touch strip appears to be completely blank, although it's possible it could be configured to display incoming notifications or basic info such as the time and date without powering on the main display.

According to The Verge, the additional strip may be called the Magic Toolbar. This makes sense, following the naming convention of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. 9to5Mac also uncovered icons inside macOS that seem to confirm the additon of Touch ID to the desktop.

We’ll know more once the product is officially announced on Thursday, but for now it seems that the Magic Toolbar is indeed on the way.
