The Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 30mm F3. 5 Macro is a new design that claims to provide good performance, as short as a 14mm working distance (subject to lens), and 1. 25x magnification without too much price.
We took it out for a little shooting and found, even handheld, it produces some pleasing results. Our first impressions are very good, with the bokeh and sharpness both being a nice surprise.
Light was low and tripods were not permitted in the conservatory where a large amount of these photos were taken. While acceptably sharp, some photos are taken at shutter speeds that make it likely that even sharper results would be possible with more light and proper support. That said, anyone interested in casual handheld macro shooting should expect results like these. Also, some image's exposures were lifted, adding noise.
