Digital artist and creative retoucher Gianfranco Gallo has intertwined the fantasy and reality of Game of Thrones in a series that merges the actors with their Westeros counterpart. Far from being a simple side-by-side comparison, Gallo used Photoshop to seamlessly blend the makeup, hairline and wardrobe donned by the likes of Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister and Petyr Baelish together with photos of the actors out of costume.
A big Game of Thrones fan himself, Gallo says that some of the main cast members look almost unrecognisable out of character, but in other cases, the distinction is barely noticeable.
Nevertheless, through these composited works, we get to see the amount of dedication and craft that went toward bringing these characters to life. The battle scars, weathered garb and other subtleties stand out thanks to the great lengths costume designers and makeup artists went through to realise George R. R. Martin’s vision.
