Canon to speak at IEDM about new sensor development

On December 13th, Canon will have a presentation at IEDM (International Electron Devices Meeting) on a new sensor that they have developed. Image-sensors-world first discovered this snippet; Canon will introduce a new twisted photodiode CIS structure – 6 µm pixel pitch – enabling all-directional autofocus for high speed and accuracy and 95 dB DR.

No, I Don’t Feel Cheated by Leica. So Why Should You?

I think that when photographers scoff at Leica, they do nothing but look at the specs. But if you're buying a Leica, you're not necessarily doing that. Leica cameras surely do things specs-wise that a bunch of other brands don't.

Dear Kodak, This is the Best Time to Make Sensors Again

I remember fondly back to a time when you made imaging sensors. Specifically, I remember the ones you sold to Leica. They were wonderful. The sensors you made too were wonderful. Sadly, the industry didn't appreciate them.

Watch How This Leica Camera Sensor Gets Cleaned

Have you ever wondered what's involved when it comes to cleaning a camera sensor? While there are kits available for you to do this at home, it's really not recommended unless you have the utmost confidence in your own hand eye coordination, especially if your dealing with a camera that costs as much as a Leica does.

Patent: Organic Image Sensor Ideas

Canon continues to provide R&D resources into organic image sensors. Panasonic and Fujifilm are also putting resources into this technology and may actually be ahead of Canon with working examples of organic sensors.

Canon Inc. to Sell Sensors to Third Parties

As reported back in August, Canon is going to be selling sensors for OEM use. It’ll be interesting to see who is the first to use the 120mp CMOS sensor. Keep in mind these image sensors will likely be used for something other than still cameras, and could appear in things like cars, robots and Read more...

Image Sensors: The Main Battleground of the Camera Industry

Manufacturing silicon is patently not required in order to make cameras — anyone can put together a pinhole model — however, the wider point is more pertinent. To be a competitive, global, manufacturer, do you need to make the sensors that actually go into camera bodies? The History of Camera Manufacturing The camera manufacturing business […]
