I fancy myself a bug and botanical portrait photographer. Sounds strange, but I love showing people the beauty and diversity of insects and spiders up close. I spent all summer photographing the diversity of insects and spiders in my backyard and local arboretum in NE Ohio.
We always associate the world of spiders with something disgusting, dangerous, and predatory. Nothing could be more further from the truth. Spiders are very delicate and timid creatures—I have found this out many times while photographing them.
Using our eyes or adding a lens for details, we can take a look at the universe beneath our feet, in grandma’s backyard or the city park.
