One of the most innovative cameras announced at the Photokina Show in Germany was the Zeiss ZX1. Considered a premium compact, the quirky design with a proud grip shape is one thing, but it’s what is inside the curved body that is really grabbing the headlines.

Watch this video to find out more about the ZX1.

First up, let’s talk about exactly what the ZX1 offers. With a 37. 4-megapixel full-frame sensor that creates images measuring 7488x4992 pixels in RAW or JPEG file format, the ZX1 features an ISO range of 80-51200 and is built around a Zeiss Distagon 35mm lens with a fast maximum aperture of f/2.

The ZX1 features a unique grip design.

Images can be lined up via the large 4. 3-inch touch-sensitive LCD or by the the OLED EVF (Electronic Viewfinder). Interestingly, there’s no memory card slot, and instead, the ZX1 offers 512GB of internal storage, which enables the camera to store almost 7,000 shots.

There's no memory card, but the ZX1 has internal storage and can shoot 4K video.

The ZX1 can shoot ultra high quality 4K video at 30p or Full HD at 60p, but it’s what the ZX1 allows you to do once the image has been taken that’s truly amazing. Zeiss has managed to integrate Adobe Lightroom into the ZX1, enabling photographers to edit and enhance images. Editing options include cropping, exposure adjustments such as Shadows/Highlights, ability to adjust white-balance and options to enhance sharpness.

The ZX1 does away with the need for a computer - just edit as you go!

There’s also Split Tone options and the ability to add Dehaze and Vignettes. Once you’re happy with all your editing, users can then export files using the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions - you can even upload to Dropbox and then email the link from the camera. . . pretty clever eh! While there’s no word on pricing, Zeiss have explained that the ZX1 will be released in early 2019.

Photographers won't have to wait too long to get their hands on the ZX1.
