Yongnuo is known for making really good, yet really affordable lenses, along with other accessories such as flashguns and radio triggers. Well, the latest lens to roll out from the brand’s HQ has just been announced as the YN 60mm - a 60mm manual focus macro lens with an f/2 maximum aperture.
Although many photographers would have preferred this lens to feature autofocus, the Yongnuo optic includes plenty of other desirable specifications. For example, the lens features a 1:1 magnification ratio, making it a true macro lens and enabling photographers to capture frame-filling pictures of small subjects, such as insects or flower heads.
The YN 60mm features a true 1:1 magnification ratio.
The lens also features a minimum focusing distance of 0. 234m - meaning you can get impressively close to the subject. But this optic can be used for much more than close-ups of insects. A fast maximum aperture of f/2 and an infinity mode, means this optic could also find its way into the kit bags of portrait photographers. A focal length of 60mm produces flattering portraits and the f/2 aperture will do a great job of keeping the subject sharp, while throwing the background out of focus. Plus, the fast aperture will allow photographers to capture sharp images when light levels fall.
The YN 60mm glass is multi-coated and the contacts are gold-plated.
Yongnuo explain the lens also has a built-in electromagnetic aperture, which supports Manual, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, Program and Bulb modes and can ‘effectively improve the accuracy and durability of the aperture control’.
The lens is manual focus and features a f/2 maximum aperture.
The glass in the lens features multi-coated technology, which Yongnuo says ‘improves light transmittance and inhibits ghost shadow and glare’ and there’s gold plated metal contacts to improve signal conductivity and corrosion resistance.
Weighing in at 586g and with a filter thread size of 67mm, firmware for the YN 60mm can be upgraded through camera instead of using USB port. At present, there’s no official confirmation on which fitments the lens will be available in, or a confirmed price. That said, like all other Yongnuo lenses, it’s expected the YN 60mm will be priced competitively.
