Adobe has developed a new tool to fix photographs featuring blown out skies. The exciting software update was revealed at the MAX 2016 conference last week. The ‘Sky Replace’ feature essentially uses a deep learning algorithm to identify where the sky, buildings, and ground are located in the image.
The user can then swap out blown out skylines for a more idyllic background setting of their choosing.
The demonstration also showed off an automated mode which lets the software select the best sky automatically. That said, photography enthusiasts will probably feel more comfortable playing with the high dynamic range settings on their camera instead.
Nevertheless, the Sky Replace algorithm will be useful to casual photographers and those in need of fixing that pesky holiday or wedding photograph in post.
