Apple’s New MacBook Pros Are Coming

It appears that long-awaited updates to Apple’s family of powerhouse MacBook Pros are imminent, according to MacRumors. The mobile editing rig of choice for many photographers, the MacBook Pro provides an ideal combination of power and portability that make mobile editing as breeze.

However, Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup, last updated in May 2015, is overdue for a refresh. According to speculation, Apple has scheduled a press event for the end of October to do just that.

The latest updates to the MacBook line came earlier this year with the consumer-level MacBook. Those laptops aren’t designed with professional photographers in mind, however, whereas the MacBook Pro provides much more horsepower in a slightly larger package.

Speculation surrounding the revised MacBook Pro indicates that a touchscreen strip will replace the physical function keys at the top of the keyboard. It appears likely that this strip will serve multiple purposes, such as displaying time, date and weather information, as well as acting as a small user interface, capable of performing simple tasks without powering on the main display.

MacRumors reports that new MacBook Pros will also come equipped with four USB-C ports (as opposed to just one on MacBooks), will support TouchID and (thankfully) will include a headphone jack. Like the current MacBook lineup, a number of finishes will be available, including gold, grey, rose gold, and silver.
