Blackmagic Design has launched DaVinci Resolve 17. 1 and Fusion 17. 1. The update adds native support for Apple's M1 Macs. The public release follows months of public beta testing. The announcement also comes just a day after Adobe announced that Photoshop for M1 Macs is now available.
The software choices for creatives hoping to get the most out of their new Apple silicon computers are readily expanding.
DaVinci Resolve 17 was first announced as a public beta last November and added more than 300 new features and improvements. The full public launch of Resolve 17 occurred just last month, not long before this first significant update to the software.
In addition to M1 support, Resolve 17. 1 adds H. 265 4:2:2 hardware decoding for Apple Silicon. Intel computers receive H. 265 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 hardware decoding in the latest version of Resolve. DaVinci Resolve 17. 1 also adds support for GPU decoding of RED clips in OpenCL processing mode, the option always to perform copy and paste actions on selected color nodes, and general performance and stability improvements. DaVinci Resolve 17. 1 and Fusion 17. 1 now run natively on M1 Macs, such as the MacBook Pro shown here. Last year, Apple announced its first three M1 Macs, the Mac Mini, MacBook Air and 13" MacBook Pro. Apple fans can expect even more new M1 Macs this year, including a rumored new iMac and Mac Pro.
Blackmagic Fusion 17. 1 has a much smaller list of updates although no less significant for M1 Mac users. The update adds Apple Silicon support and offers general performance and stability improvements.

At the time of DaVinci Resolve 17's announcement, Blackmagic Design CEO, Grant Perry, said, 'This is a massive update and it has amazing new technology and features for colorists, audio engineers, editors and visual effects artists. DaVinci Resolve 17. 1 and DaVinci 17. 1 are available in the free version of DaVinci Resolve. There are quite a few features in the free version. Still, for users needing more, a lifetime license of DaVinci Resolve Studio and DaVinci Fusion Studio each cost $299 for lifetime licenses.
