Fujfilm’s X series of compacts and mirrorless models may be the current system of choice for many enthusiasts, but it’s arguably the medium-format GFX line that has generated more interest over the past six months or so.
And that looks set to be the case for the time being, with today’s confirmation of two new lenses and the release of a refreshed roadmap for the system.
The two optics, namely the Fujinon GF110mm F2 R LM WR and GF23mm F4 R LM WR, were part of the original roadmap that was unveiled last year but, up until today, further details have been minimal.
The Fujinon GF110mm F2 R LM WR is a wide-aperture telephoto lens with a focal length equivalent to 87mm in 35mm terms.

As we may expect for a lens targeted at the portrait photographer, it boasts a nine-bladed diaphragm for circular bokeh, and has four elements with extra low dispersion (ED) properties to keep chromatic aberrations down to a minimum.
Meanwhile the GF23mm F4 R LM WR gives GFX users a focal length equivalent of 18mm (in 35mm terms) to work with and plenty of exotic glass on the inside.

These include aspherical, ED and super ED elements to help keep various aberrations under control, as well as the same Nano GI coating as we’ve seen in X-series objectives to help minimise ghosting and flare.
Both lenses are designed to be weather and dust resistant, as well as operational in freezing temperatures, and both incorporate linear focusing motors for fast and quiet focusing.
GFX users are also set to benefit from a new eyecup and view camera adapter, the latter of which allows for older large-format Fujinon lenses to be used with the GFX 50S (and presumably future bodies).

The two new lenses follow three additional optics that have already been launched, which brings the total up to five. A further lens, the GF45mm F2. 8 R WR, is set to be launched by the end of the year, although a new road map shows these will be joined in 2018 by a new telephoto lens and a teleconverter.
The roadmap for the GFX system
Fujfilm hasn't provided any details on the focal length of the new lens or the focal-length magnification of the teleconverter, although its willingness to show exactly where it's heading is very encouraging.
The two lenses and view camera adapter should all hit the shelves in June.
