We’ve seen cameras put into a lot of objects lately. Sunglasses, Coke bottles, and now dear readers, a hat. Google, has apparently taken the smackdown Google Glass got given like a champ and has logged a United States patent for a hat with an inbuilt camera in the brim.
Though the specific kind of digital camera (sensor, lens, resolution etc) is not mentioned, it appears that rather than just being the most unstylish piece of spy gear ever designed, this cap will have some interesting features.
Based on the information listed in the patent text, it seems like Google’s hat will have video and audio recording capability that can be triggered by a movement based interface. The document mentions vibration notifications based on the head turning in different directions. The hat will also seemingly be able to share content directly to social networks, as well as emergency services. In fact this chapeau will come with GPS tech to pinpoint a wearer’s location.
What is absolutely strange however is that the hat will allow a user to communicate with customer services directly. Not only is there a microphone included in this design but a literal headphone system that will play sound to the user through skull vibrations. This in theory means that Google tech support could talk directly to a user as they stream their live recording too them.
Slowly but surely we are going to reach a point where wearable cameras are the norm. We’rejust unsure we have reached that stage yet.
