Thingyfy has announced the Pinhole Pro Max, the 'world's most advanced pinhole lens. ' The lens is the first of its kind to offer six different aperture settings and an 18-36mm variable focal length.
The Pinhole Pro Max isn't the first time Thingyfy has broken new ground with pinhole lenses. The original Pinhole Pro lens, launched in 2016, includes a fixed focal length and an adjustable aperture. Thingyfy then released the Pinhole Pro S the following year. At 11mm, it is the widest modern pinhole lens. In 2019, Thingyfy followed the Pro S with the Pro X, the first pinhole zoom lens.
The Pinhole Pro Max combines the zooming capabilities of the Pro X and the adjustable aperture feaeture of the original Pinhole Pro lens. You can adjust the aperture through six settings from F36 to F233. Thingyfy writes, 'Pinhole Pro Max is the culmination of everything we've learned about pinhole photography —combining a decade of advanced pinhole innovations into the most high-end pinhole lens ever. '

Beyond delivering zooming capabilities and a variable aperture, the Pinhole Pro Max is also compatible with a wide range of lens mounts thanks to the universal mount add-on. As Thingyfy puts it, you can 'get back to the roots of photography' on many different camera systems, including Canon EF and RF, Nikon F and Z, Sony A and E, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds and Pentax K.
The lens offers precisely-machined pinhole sizes of 0. 15, 0. 2, 0. 25, 0. 3, 0. 35 and 0. 5mm. The lens itself weighs between 161. 5 and 171 grams depending upon which version you purchase. It is built from an anodized aluminum alloy.
The Pinhole Pro Max is currently available on Kickstarter and early bird pricing starters at $219. This represents a large savings over the eventual retail price of $429. Thingyfy is also offering a special Pinhole Pro family pack with the new Pinhole Pro Max and the existing Pro, Pro S and Pro X pinhole lenses for $569. The new Pinhole Pro Max lens is expected to begin shipping this September.
