Kodak may have backed away from the spotlight in recent years, but the company has still managed to produce cameras that continue to capture the attention of photographers around the world. The AZ901 is a small camera with a seriously big focal range.

Announced earlier in 2018, the PixPro AZ901 is a bridge camera that may have gone under the radar of most photographers, but now the camera has started shipping, the incredible specifications list will surely cause many jaws to drop to the floor.

The long focal length will be good news for wildlife photographers.

Right at the top of that list is a mind-blowing 90x optical zoom, which gives the AZ901 a 35mm equivalent focal length of 22-1980mm. Yep, that’s right, 22-1980mm! Such a vast focal range covers pretty much every picture situation a photographer could wish to cover, from wide-angle landscapes to astro-photography images of the moon. This incredible focal range even trumps the acclaimed Nikon P900, which ‘only’ offers an 83x zoom.

The AZ901 features a 20-megapixel sensor.

The good news from the spec list as at the heart of the AZ901 is a 20 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor that can capture JPEG and RAW files with a maximum image size of 5184x3888 pixels, meaning big prints can be made from the files captured on this camera. A 3-inch vari-angle LCD offering 921-k resolution will help photographers set up for awkward high/low compositions. The LCD will also be useful when shooting movies, which the AZ901 can do at Full HD 1920x1080p (30fps) resolution.

The AZ901 shoots video too, making it suitable for taking on your travels.

Bridge cameras aren’t known for their speed, but the AZ901 posts a decent pace of 5 frames per second in burst mode - plus there’s a 25-point AF system and a ISO range of 100-3200. Other features include built-in Wi-Fi that combines with an iOS/Android app to allow settings to be controlled remotely, plus a 360 panorama mode and a Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). Lastly, in a throwback to Kodak days of old, there are creative colour effects, with photographers able to choose from Ektachrome, Kodachrome or Kodacolor film simulation settings. Available now, the AZ901 will cost US photographers $499.

The longer focal length even makes the camera suitable for astro-photography.
