Litchi is an autonomous flight app that is compatible with most DJI drones including the Mavic 2 series, Inspire 2, and Phantom 4 Pro. It is well known for being the first app to allow users to pre-plan waypoint missions from a desktop or Mac/PC laptop.
Recently, the developers behind the app announced an update for iOS and Android. All modes except for Waypoint, which is expected to be available in the near future, are available to Mavic Mini users. This means you can track a subject or have the Mini drone follow your movements.
Keep in mind that this update only works for the original Mavic Mini. When asked about the recently-released Mini 2, a representative from Litchi told DPReview 'DJI has said they will add support for the Mini 2 in a future SDK (Software Development Kit) update in 2021. This update is required for Litchi to support this drone. At the moment we don't have more details on which feature will be supported. ' The same can be said for the Mavic Air 2, which currently isn't compatible with Lithci either.
Here are a few more updates you can expect by upgrading to version 2. 9. 0 (iOS) and 4. 18. 0 (Android):
- added support for Mavic Mini 1, all flight modes are supported except waypoint which will come in a future update
- added Follow mode
- Panorama Database has been revamped, stitching is improved and you can now stitch up to 130 megapixels spherical panoramas on iPhone and up to 220 megapixels on iPad Pro
- added new 'Auto Stitch Panoramas' general camera setting. When enabled, after shooting a panorama, Litchi will automatically stitch it in low resolution in the background
- added Simulator mode that can be used to simulate a flight, enable/disable it with a long press on the top bar's flight mode (requires a connection to the drone)
- added new 'Switch Flight Mode' custom function to switch the Mavic Mini's flight mode
- added support for Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) photo capture mode for Mavic Mini
- AutoPano now shoots 360x110 spherical panoramas compared to 360x90 before
- fixed bug where sharing a panorama on Facebook would fail
Another bonus is the ability to use Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) mode with the original Mini. If DJI allows compatibility with the Mini 2 next year, as expected, panoramas will automatically be stitched together. This is a feature that is currently missing on DJI's latest sub-250g drone.
