Very little is known about what goes on inside the reclusive North Korea, but we do know that its movie industry is now stepping it up to 4K resolution with a flashy current-gen camera. Korean Central Television (KCTV) reports that North Korea was able to acquire an advanced 4K resolution Australian-made camera, believed to be Blackmagic, to bolster its caliber of filmmaking moving forwards.

The giant camera rig it sits on is designed and manufactured by a local engineering laboratory and looks to be the grandfather of Microsoft’s more advanced KIRA robot arm.

The 13 jointed camera rig is able to run on rails and track both people and objects for greater precision and flexibility. “We already adapted these technologies to produce multiple movies,” says North Korean movie director Kim Jeong Seok.

While luxury goods as an export to North Korea are prohibited under UN resolutions, photography equipment is allowed. However, Blackmagic Design have denied selling any products to any North Korean representative. How's that for black magic!
