Boutique Japanese optics manufacturer MS Optics has released its latest hand-crafted lens, the Sonnetar 50mm F1. 3 lens for Leica M-mount cameras. As with all of MS Optics’ past lenses, this bespoke lens is built from the ground up by Mr.
Sadayasu Miyazaki in Chiba, Japan.
As the name suggests, the lens features a Sonnar optical design and is constructed of five elements in four groups. All elements are multi-coated and offer 97% light transmission. The lens features a 14-blade aperture diaphragm (made by Otto Niemann), an aperture range of F1. 3 through F16 and has a minimum focusing distance of 80cm (31. 5”).
As with nearly all of Mr. Miyazaki’s designs, this lens is relatively compact, measuring 49mm (1. 9”) in diameter by 36mm (1. 4”) long and weighs only 143g (5oz) with the lens hood attached.
