The Canon USA store has refurbished Canon Speedlite EL-5 on sale for only $169 (Reg $299). Canon has fixed the issue with a bad batch of Canon Speedlite EL-5s and they’re now a great option for people that need a speedlite from time to time.
Canon seems to have lost the ability to make speelites. The Speedlite EL-1 was recently discontinued and had been a trainwreck of availability for a long time. Now the Canon Speedlite EL-5 has been recalled.
Since the launch of the EOS R system, the Speedlite situation for the system has been a bit of a mess. Currently, the flagship Speedlite EL-1 isn't expected to ship again until May of 2024, while it's compatible the entire EOS R lineup, it's also prohibitively expensive for a lot of shooters.
