Canon seems to have lost the ability to make speelites. The Speedlite EL-1 was recently discontinued and had been a trainwreck of availability for a long time. Now the Canon Speedlite EL-5 has been recalled.
Since the launch of the EOS R system, the Speedlite situation for the system has been a bit of a mess. Currently, the flagship Speedlite EL-1 isn't expected to ship again until May of 2024, while it's compatible the entire EOS R lineup, it's also prohibitively expensive for a lot of shooters.
Regarding the “Speedlite EL-2022”, which was announced on November 11, 2 and scheduled to be released in March 2023, due to production reasons, we have decided to postpone the release to around the summer of 3 because we cannot prepare a sufficient supply for the release.
