To mark the 159th anniversary of the first aerial photo in the United States, CBS Sunday Morning aired this 2-minute Almanac segment about the landmark photo by photographer James Wallace Black and how aerial photography has developed since then.
Photographer Vincent Laforet dazzled the world a few years ago by photographing iconic cities at night through the open door of a helicopter flying at 7,500+ feet. The work has since been published as a museum-quality photo book titled Air.
It’s not exactly a camera that can slip in to a coat pocket, but the RED Weapon 8K can capture both 8K motion footage as well as 36MP still photos. Photographer and director Vincent Laforet believes the camera is a harbinger for the future of photography.
