Photographers looking to pick up a new wide-angle lens now have another optical option to add to their shortlist after third-party manufacturer Yongnuo launched the YN14mm f/2. 8. The YN14mm features a corrosion resistant metal mount.
Available for Canon and Nikon DSLRs, the lens offers a fast maximum aperture of f/2. 8, allowing for fast shutter speeds to be achieved in low light conditions and for shallow depths of field to be created.
Yongnuo are best known for their manual focus lenses, but the YN14mm f/2. 8 features an autofocus system, complete with a DC motor and the lens features a design with 12 elements in 9 groups, with the glass featuring multi-layer coating to improve image quality and reduce the risk of flare and ghosting.
The 7-bladed diaphragm helps create attractive bokeh and the design is completed with an abnormal dispersion element to help reduce optical aberration.
Weighing in at 780g, the YN14mm f/2. 8 also features a focus distance indicator and a USB port so that photographers can connect the lens to a computer and update the optic’s firmware, essentially future-proofing the lens.
The wide focal length of 14mm gives a 114-degree field of view, making it an excellent option for both landscape and architectural photography. While no pricing information has been released, the YN14mm f/2. 8 is expected to ship from January 2018.
