Is ZeroTech Working On A DJI Mavic Copycat Drone?

It seems as if DJI may soon have some competition heading their way, as leaked images purport to show a new drone from ZeroTech, that looks mighty similar to the DJI Mavic. The images, which come courtesy of sb-dji.

com don’t come with a huge amount of information but the resemblance in body shape between the two drones is certainly striking, ZeroTech launched their extremely portable selfie drone, the Dobby, in November 2016 to a reasonably positive reaction. Though very small and with a limited range and battery life, it boasted a 13MP camera (just inching above the Mavic) and impressive facial recognition tools. If these images are to be believed, ZeroTech could be developing a drone with increased flight ability to lure consumers away from DJI’s offering.

The listed (though we repeat, rumoured) specs for this new (possibly called the "Hunter") drone from ZeroTech are a 7-15 minutes of flight time, and a flight range of 1. 5km. Though that doesn’t quite match the Mavic’s flight time which averages at around 20 minutes, it’s likely that the ZeroTech drone will market itself as a budget alternative.

Seeing potential imitators like this isn’t too surprising. When DJI launched the Mavic in Autumn 2016, it blew away aerial photographers. It’s extreme portability, reliability, and selection of flying tools made it one of the certified hits of the year. It was even seen as such a biting rival to the existing market, that many declared it as at least part responsible for GoPro’s poor launch of the Karma drone. It is only natural that others would emulate the Mavic’s success. The question is (if this is indeed ZeroTech’s strategy), whether or not consumers will stick to the established king of the drone industry or go indie with their money,
