Too often, I've seen cameras that have a lot of hype before their release ending up disappointing. We find ourselves caught in the pre-launch hype, then get disappointed when the product finally hits the shelves.
Let me preface this article by saying that, in many ways, the newly announced Nikon Zf has far exceeded my expectations. Truth be told, I was expecting nothing more than a full-frame Nikon Zfc. In a slightly bigger size and with a bit less plastic in the body.
We've been waiting for the Nikon Zf for a couple of years now. In fact, at The Phoblographer, we genuinely thought that the Nikon Zfc would be a full-frame camera. As successful as the Zfc has been around the world if the upcoming Nikon Zf wants to win over the hearts of more passionate photographers, Nikon really needs to release a lot more retro-styled lenses that appeal to the eyes.
If you read our article back in May about the need for a mirrorless retro body from Nikon, you would have noticed how badly I was hoping for a full-frame sensor in there. Didn't get that, nor did it come close to the 30-megapixel resolution I was hoping for.
The closer it got to the release date, the more apparent it became that Nikon's Zfc was going to be a crop sensor body. This was a feature that I was desperately hoping against, having made the decisive and firm jump to Full-Frame sensors nearly a decade ago.
The Nikon Zfc is a crop sensor mirrorless digital camera designed to replicate the classic Nikon FM2 Film camera, often considered one of the best 35mm film cameras of all time.
