Apple has released an update for Final Cut Pro that dramatically improves performance on its new Mac Studio computers, particularly when working with ProRes video files. In addition to improved performance in FPCX, Apple has also added a few other quality-of-life features to its professional-level video editor and updated both Motion and Compressor to boot.
Apple doesn’t go into too much detail regarding the performance improvements for its M1 Max and M1 Ultra Mac Studios, other than to say it has ‘optimized playback and graphics performance. ’ Apple has also added a new duplication detection feature that will locate media that appears more than once in a project so you aren’t using any more space than needed. For devices running macOS Monterey version 12. 3 or later, Apple has also added a new speech clarity function that adjusts the level of background noise in a clip using machine learning.
For those who are using the new Magic Movie and Storyboard projects feature in iMovie, Apple has also made it possible to import those iMovie projects directly into your FCPX timeline. Korean language support has also been added and various bug fixes have been addressed. You can find the full changelog here.
As for Apple’s accompanying Motion and Compressor apps, Motion gets a new Slice Scale filter while Compressor can now rotate/flip videos and display a video’s transparency settings and aspect ratio in the output/modified video properties.
