Web browsers have become increasingly capable. This is evidenced by Colorcinch, a browser-based photo editor. Colorcinch, formerly known as Cartoonize, includes essential photo editing tools, text editing, layers (with blend modes), effects and filters, stock photo access and more.

Better yet, you can use Colorcinch for free, although some features require a premium subscription.

Using Colorcinch is as simple as visiting the website and uploading an image. Once your image has been uploaded, you are treated to a simple, straightforward user interface. Along the left side of the browser window are numerous icons, including access to your image manager, editing tools, effects, filters, overlays, masks, text, draw, graphics and frames.

Colorcinch includes many key features, such as photo editing tools, layers, text editor, filters and effects, export and share tools and more.

Individual photo editing tools include crop, resize, rotate, exposure (which includes brightness, contrast, highlights and shadows), color, vibrance, tint, details, and vignette. Adjustments are performed using easy-to-read sliders, and each tool even includes on-screen tips, which can be disabled.

In the bottom right corner of the window are buttons to undo and redo edits and access the layers workspace. The layers button brings up a layer properties menu, including different blending options and an opacity slider.

For those looking to add a unique twist to their images, many filters, effects, and masks are available. However, not all of them are included with the free version of Colorcinch. Plus, all the basic photo editing tools are free.

Colorcinch's user interface is very simple and straightforward. Editing tools are located down the left-hand side of the browser window and edits are performed using on-screen sliders.

There are limitations to Colorcinch. If you have a shoddy internet connection, your experience will be negatively impacted. Further, you can't edit raw image files straight from your camera, which is an issue for many photographers. The lack of raw editing may not be problematic for beginners or those looking to make quick edits to images they've already processed and exported as . JPG files. If you're using the free version, you must export your image when you're done editing, as the ability to save your work as a project is limited to premium subscribers.

Colorcinch includes many filters and effects, some of which are available for free. Additional filters and effects require Colorcinch Plus.
