Adobe has teased what they foresee as the future of photo editing with a concept video. It shows the potential of what a voice controlled digital assistant could accomplish. Let’s be clear, the video, entitled “What If You Had An Intelligent Assistant for Photo Editing?” is a work of fantasy fiction.
This system is likely in the early brainstorm stages of development. However at a scant 30 seconds it does raise some questions of how useful a hands-off approach could be.
On that note, the description of the video is a delightful mixing bowl of technobabble and buzzwords:
“Our Adobe Research team is exploring what an intelligent digital assistant photo editing might look like. To envision this, we combined the emerging science of voice interaction with a deep understanding of both creative workflows and the creative aspirations of our customers. Our speech recognition system is able to directly accept natural user voice instructions for image editing either locally through on-device computing or through a cloud-based Natural Language understanding service. This is a first step towards a robust multimodal voice-based interface which allows our creative customers to search and edit images in an easy and engaging way using Adobe mobile applications. ”
Though the DigitalRev team always loves new toys to play with, we’re not sure if this system is really ideal for most people’s Photoshop needs. Most people like to micromanage their photo edits to an insanely detailed degree, which will not be as precise or fast with today’s voice tech. However, we will admit that this concept would be incredibly useful for those possessing limited use of their hands, who wish to edit their pics.
