Just announced, the results of the International Landscape Photographer of the Year contest are definitely going to blow away some of your winter cobwebs. Many stunning images have been rewarded this year, and the contest was fierce with over 3000 entries competing for a prize pool that included US$10,000 in cash.

The awards are split into two main categories, Landscape Photographer of the Year for a portfolio of at least four images, and Landscape Photograph of the Year for a single image. Then there are a sprinkling of individual awards, which change each year, all of which have a scenic flavour such as Sunset/Sunrise, Snow and Ice, Mist and Fog, and the brilliantly titled Exemplary Tree Award.

Finally the contest has a Top 101, including the winners, so that other inspiring and highly commended images can get the attention they deserve, all of which go on to feature in the competition’s exhibition and book.

The International Landscape Photographer of the Year went to Adam Gibbs from Canada. It was a collection of images that, according to the judges contained “a diversity of views, an understanding of light, and the expert use of framing and composition. ” Adam is a professional photographer who graduated from shooting for gardening publications to be a full-time nature photographer. His current kit includes a Nikon D850 alongside 14-24mm, 16-35mm, 24-120mm and 70-200mm lenses.

The winner of the International Landscape Photograph of the Year (for a single image) was Paul Marcellini from the USA, whose winning image had the presence and impact required to stand alone. Paul is a full time landscape photographer who specialises in Florida scenery, and shoots with a Sony A7R III, using Canon 17mm and 24mm tilt-shift lenses as well as a Canon 11-24mm, all via an adapter.

The special awards for 2018 go to these guys. . .
