Need some pet portraiture inspiration? Well take a look at the winning images from the 2017 Dog Photographer of the Year awards. Now in its 12th year, the competition attracted over 10,000 images from 74 different countries all over the globe, including Russia, Brazil, New Zealand and Canada.
The competition’s overall winner was Maria Davison, a photographer based in Portugal who began taking photos of her dogs and other pets three years ago. Maria’s mage of an adorable puppy resting his head, was also placed first in the ‘Man’s Best Friend’ category.
Other winners included Kaylee Greer from the United States, who won the ‘Dogs at Play’ category with a photo of Petey the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, playing on the south coast of Boston. Kaylee is a pro dog photographer known for her innovative use of off-camera flash lighting in and around water which produces amazing results, particularly during golden hour lighting.
All category winners will have their images on display at the Kennel Club in Mayfair, London from 26th June until 31st August 2017. Prizes for the winning photographers include courses with Nikon School, who supported the awards. For more information, visit www. dogphotographeroftheyear. org. uk
