DJI has pulled the covers off the Zenmuse X7; a compact Super 35mm camera with an integrated gimbal, which is being targeted at high-end filmmakers. At the heart of the camera is a 24-megapixel CMOS sensor that delivers 14-stops of dynamic range and is designed to be used on DJI’s Inspire 2 drone.
The Zenmuse offers both 6K CinemaDNG and 5. 2K Apple ProRes with support for continuous RAW burst shooting at 20 fps and 24 MP stills. What’s more, the X7 uses a new mount, called DL and to accompany the new mount are four fast aperture lenses including a 16mm f/2. 8, a 24mm f/2. 8, 35mm f/2. 8 and a 50mm f/2. 8.
Weighing just 449g (631g with the 16mm lens), the Zenmuse X7 camera has an ISO range of 100-25600 (photo) and 100-6400 (video), and the camera can offer up to three stops of exposure compensation. Images are recorded to a Micro SD card, the camera has a White Balance range of 2000-10000K and offers Auto, Manual, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority modes.
Also new is the DJI Cinema Color System, with the D-Log further extending the dynamic range, while the D-Gamut RGB color space preserves more color information to make more of the shadows and highlights in the scene. The Zenmuse X7 is available to order now from DJI’s website and is priced at $2699.
Of course, while all the specs sound mind blowing, what we really want to see is the footage the Zenmuse X7 can produce. Luckily, DJI has produced an amazing video showcasing the potential of the camera and you can watch the footage here.
