Modelling itself after Apple with sleek, chic stores and aspirational marketing, DJI has always been a ‘cool’ brand; however, there’s always a first time to look the fool. To celebrate the launch of its third flagship store, which opens later this week in Hong Kong, the company transformed a Phantom drone and Osmo into a bunch of scary mascots.
One looks like a sex toy giving the thumbs up and the other, like a demonic headcrab from Half-Life decided to mount a Teletubby.
The wacky DJI mascots are only slightly out-weirded by Canon Asia’s decision to gather its loyal staff together and create a cheesy music video to celebrate 10 years of its corporate slogan "Delighting You Always".
All jokes aside, with its main rival GoPro committing so many faux pas this year alone (before winning us over with Karma), we can all agree that DJI deserve a pass on this one right?
DJI will host its grand opening in Tower 535 at Causeway Bay on September 24th from 12pm. The 10,000+ square-foot store will be used to exhibit DJI’s full range of products. A flight cage on the ground floor will showcase the latest drones, the SkyPixel Gallery on the first floor will display the greatest aerial photographs, while the second floor will house a dedicated support team and workshop seminars for DJI enthusiasts.
And what about the DJI mascots? They’ll be venturing out into the busy streets of Causeway Bay and greeting people with friendly hugs and a cheery disposition. Let's just hope they got a permit to fly that thing into the city!
