After taking his time over the decision, President Donald Trump has announced that Shealah Craighead will be appointed Chief White House Photographer, taking the reigns from Pete Souza, who left the office as Trump took over.
Craighead has previously worked in the White House, having worked for the Bush Administration, albeit not in the top job. She was also a photographer on the Sarah Palin Vice Presidential campaign in 2008, and was reportedly Trump’s top pick for the position.
Speculation had begun around the appointment earlier this week after a number of news outlets announced her appointment prematurely. Trump’s Press Secretary Sean Spicer made the official announcement yesterday, confirming that Craighead had accepted the job.
Having photographed a number of prominent political figures in the past, the step seems a logical one for Craighead, and she will become just the second female to land the top photographer’s job at the White House. Sharon Farmer was the first, having taken over for Robert McNeely after he departed from the Clinton administration in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

You can follow Craighead on Twitter and Instagram, and her images should shortly begin to make their way to the official White House Flickr account.
