Extreme sports people, it’s time to rejoice because GoPro has announced its new range of action cameras. Three new models have just hit the market - the Hero7 White, Hero7 Silver and, the flagship model Hero7 Black.
As you’d expect, the three models have different price bands and specifications, with the White being the most affordable at $199, the Silver priced at $299 and the flagship Black model costing $399.

So what are the differences between the models? Well, the White version is limited to 10-megapixel stills and Full HD (1080p) video at 60p. Spend a little more on the Silver version and, while the stills resolution is still 10-megapixels, the video steps up to 4K at 30p - plus you also get built-in GPS. However, the Hero7 Black gives 12-megapixel stills and 4K video at up to 60p, meaning you can create two times slow motion footage at epic resolution. In fact, if slow motion is your thing, you can also shoot 2. 7K at 120 frames per second or try out 8x slow motion in Full HD.
But it’s the Hero7 Black’s HyperSmooth stabilisation feature that’s created the biggest headline. Described by GoPro as ‘gimbal-like stabilisation–without the gimbal’, the feature massively improves stabilisation of your footage - hugely important when you are using the camera on the move.

A video released by GoPro shows a comparison with (and without) the new in-built stabilisation and the difference is clear to see. Filmmakers will see the huge potential with this feature that practically does away with the need for an additional stabilising device.

Other features include a Hyperlapse mode, GPS, Face and Smile + Scene Detection along with the ability to live stream footage to platforms like Facebook and Youtube. Only the Hero7 Black features a front LCD screen, but all the cameras in the Hero7 range include waterproof protection down to 10 metres, a touch-sensitive rear screen and voice-control. All the new Hero7 cameras will start shipping at the end of September.
