Vision Research has announced a new model in its Phantom TMX ultrahigh-speed camera lineup, the TMX 5010. The new camera is an 'entry-level' slow-motion camera. By 'entry-level,' we mean less expensive than the TMX 7510 and TMX 6410 cameras, but estimates still put the TMX 5010 at costing between $60,000 and $80,000.

The Phantom TMX 5010 features a backside-illuminated image sensor capable of shooting up to 1. 16 million frames per second in standard mode. At these blazing-fast speeds, the camera's resolution is 1280 x 32 pixels. By slowing the 1MP camera down to 50,725 fps, resolution can increase to a maximum of 1280 x 800px.

In binned mode, which is monochrome output only, at 1. 16M fps, the resolution is 640 x 64px. Digging further into the image sensor, the 1MP sensor has an 18. 5 µm pixel size (37 µm with binning enabled). The sensor is 23. 7 x 14. 8mm. The image sensor has a 12-bit depth.

The TMX 5010 comes with up to 512GB of RAM, allowing the camera to buffer the incredible amount of data it captures. The camera's throughput maxes out at about 50Gpx/second with the 'FAST' option enabled. The camera allows for up to 511 memory partitions and can use CineMag V (2TB or 8TB) for non-volatile storage. At its maximum frame rate at 1280 x 800px resolution, the TMX 5010 can record for up to 6. 6 seconds. Longer record times are possible with reduced resolutions and when recording to a CineMag at lower frame rates.

In terms of lenses, the TMX 5010 can accept Nikon F-mount lenses and supports F and G style lenses. Additional mounts are available, including Canon EOS, PL-mount, C-mount and M42-mount.
