Weird and wonderful YouTube sensation MysteryGuitarMan has set his sights on the bizarre world of stock photography. His latest upload, entitled Stock Photo-shop is a music video which inserts the sunglasses-clad creator into various cringeworthy examples of the stock imagery genre.
The clip features MGM lip-syncing to the catchy indie ditty, ‘Believer’ by Paper Lions. The production is sponsored by image sourcing site GraphicStock and shows that the company is willing to poke a little fun at themselves while getting some good publicity from it.
Having to deal with the ridiculous world of stock photography on a regular basis, the clip got some great chuckles out of our own team. Sometimes when a story doesn’t have any visuals to it, one of us will need to find a cover picture that will provide a general feeling to a piece. Inevitably we find ourselves facing some very peculiar images and questioning the sanity of the people involved in their creation. There is something utterly delightful about the sheer naffness of them.
MGM’s video is a wry tip of the hat to a much maligned industry that battles to convey every conceivable situation you could imagine through photography. After giving it a view, we definitely recommend checking out our own series of videos examining what must go into it.
