The Vimble S is a Kickstarter project that just passed its goal of raising HK$399,999, which is around US$5,150. The funds will go towards the production and distribution of the Vimble S smartphone gimbal.
The Vimble S is a three-axis motorised gimbal that works with all the main smartphones out there right now such as the Huawei P9, Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Note, and Apple iPhone.
It will communicate via Bluetooth, and looks very similar to the DJI Osmo Mobile. In fact, they originally debuted their first generation Vimbal in July before the OSMO Mobile came out, and are now responding with a slightly more advanced, and significantly cheaper product.
The Vimbal S can control the smartphone camera's exposure, shutter speed, zoom, focus, and white balance using a physical control. Therefore videographers won't have to keep clicking on the phone while the recording is going on.
The Vimbal S can also track faces like the OSMO Mobile can, which allows for video-selfies and panorama images with automated time-lapses and panning – like we did in Cologne.
This is a Hong Kong-based company, and the engineers at the brand claim that the Vimbal S can run for up to 8 hours, and is incredibly quiet. The campaign still has almost a full month before the Kickstarter will end, and they've already met their goal.
It's scheduled to be released in January 2017, and will only cost $179 if you pledged on the Kickstarter. For comparison, the OSMO Mobile will set you back US$299.
