Flickr Adds Three New Features To Improve Desktop Feed

Flickr has announced that it will be adding three new features to the desktop experience that will help users to discover and engage with photos more easily. The new rollout will strive to keep Flickr feed content up-to-date with groups to be featured more prominently as the company aims to increase views over its vast collection of over 12.

4 billion user uploaded photos.

The new two-column feed will allow more photos to surface to the top of the page and increase discoverability and recommendations based on favourited photos and Flickr featured photographers - similar to Instagram’s people discovery tab.

A slick preview function will also give people the ability to scroll through a user’s photo album directly from the newsfeed provided they’ve shared more than one photo in the collection. In addition, information regarding the photo will be brought up so you can see interesting details regarding the photo without having to jump back and forth between pages.

Finally, Flickr will be updating the notifications hub which will alert users to activity such as photos favourited by people and responses left on your page; a must-have feature for today’s social networking sites.

The new features are seemingly targeted at reversing negative press the photo sharing site has received due to the precarious position of Yahoo, the company that owns Flickr, has left them in.
