A few days ago Fujifilm unveiled the GFX 50S. The new flagship announcement demonstrated the new mirrorless medium format camera’s monster-sized 43. 8 x 32. 9 sensor which was said to be 1. 7x larger than that found in a 35mm camera - but does a bigger sensor mean a heftier camera to lug around? Apparently not.
We previously touched upon how compact and handheld the GFX 50S in DigitalRev’s hands-on first impression but the pictures sent to us by the DRTV crew in Germany show just how compact it really is.
While the GFX 50S’s size specs haven’t be revealed yet, it’s clear to see how small the mirrorless medium format is when stacked up against the Fujifilm X-Pro 2 (141 mm H x 83 mm W).
With the detachable EVF the GFX 50S is only slightly larger than Fujifilm’s previous mirrorless camera. Now let's take a look at the sensor.
The GFX 50S is the world’s second medium format mirrorless camera after the Hasselblad X1D which is likely to be comparable to its rival in the size wars. However, whether or not GFX 50S can beat the X1D’s hefty US$8,995 price tag remains to be seen.
